One of the first few shots with a new lens just aquired today (Canon 400 mm f/5.6 L USM).
Drab bird against a drab background, but quite a pleasing pose.
Canon 1D MkIII 400 5.6 + 1.4 TCII
1/5000s f/8.0 at 560mm ISO 800
"Hand-held", 60% crop

Hello Oliveira,
I always use my lenses in AF mode. With my 1D MkIII body I have many options (not all of which I understand!) including using a feature called "live view" (seeing the image on the rear LCD as you do in a "point and shoot" camera) in which I can focus manually and probably (?) get sharper images than with AF. Unfortunately, the birds which I photograph do not apprecciate this feature and are gone long before I can compose and focus an image!!!
Kind regards,
Colin
