Porzana porzana

Franga-d'água-grande at Lagoa dos Salgados this morning. Difficult to age - some plumage features look like adult, but the bill colour (lack of red at base) maked this a juvenille.

Great picture of an extremely elusive species!

I was VERY pleased with this shot. The bird was feeding within the juncus vegetation and not easy to see (impossible to photograph), but then made a quick run to another patch of vegetation - the light was good and I was very lucky with this shot.

Very pleasing when one single shot makes a whole morning's work worthwhile.

Just to see this bird is an achievement (I have only seen four in twelve years here), to get a good image is fantastic - I really was VERY lucky.

I never saw this species too. It's not the Porzana parva but no doubt a great catch and photo. Congrats
